From complex models to actionable insights in early drug discovery

New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), including organoids and other advanced human-relevant in vitro models, are re-shaping early drug discovery and translational research. These systems provide more physiologically relevant biology for secondary screening, translational validation, and complex disease modelling.

Microscopy-based imaging plays a critical role in unlocking the full potential of these models, enabling high-resolution visualization of cellular organization, dynamic processes, and disease phenotypes in a 3D context. However, their increasing size and complexity introduce significant challenges: light scattering limits imaging depth, subtle phenotypes require single-cell resolution, and understanding drug response often requires capturing spatiotemporal dynamics and cell–cell interactions across multiple scales.

In this event, we explore how organoids are being applied across early drug discovery and translational research workflows, the challenges associated with working with increasingly complex models, and emerging imaging approaches designed to address these needs.

Panel Discussion

Featuring all speakers in the showcase, this discussion explores the growing adoption of organoids and human-relevant 3D in vitro models in response to regulatory and funding support for New Approach Methodologies (NAMs), including what’s driving uptake and where challenges remain. It also examines how to design effective imaging strategies for increasingly complex organoid systems, balancing factors such as resolution, depth, speed, and throughput. Finally, it considers the role of AI in organoid research, from experimental design and imaging to data analysis and decision-making.

About Technology Showcases

Our Technology Showcases are interactive, online events that bring together leading experts and innovators to share insights on the latest technology in a specific field.

This series is designed for industry professionals, scientists and researchers to stay ahead of the latest innovations. Each showcase spotlights a critical real-world success story, where leading experts share how cutting-edge technologies are transforming research and overcoming key challenges.

Each showcase features two expert talks from leaders in the field, followed by an in-depth exploration and demonstration of new technologies from our Solution Providers and a live Q&A. Gain practical insights and witness technologies in action.
